CSC Training Facilities

This course offers guidance, ideas and tips for designing training/teaching, development and delivery on training activities, all based on research-driven educational principles. It is the ideal start for any trainer of research computing and data related topics.


This course will cover the following topics:

  • Learning principles and how they apply to training and teaching
  • Design and plan session, course, materials
  • Teaching techniques to enhance learner engagement and participation
  • Feedback in training and teaching
  • Use of AI in training and teaching

 

Course dates, with all sessions held in-person:

  • Tuesday 24.11, 10-16
  • Wednesday 25.11, 10-16
  • Thursday 26.11, 10-16

This course will be delivered in-person using ELIXIR Train the Trainer materials.

Please note: 

The course is highly interactive and hence it is important that you, as a participant, actively contribute to all sessions and elements of the course.

Thanks to support from ELIXIR, we are able to offer this workshop free-of-charge, please only register if you are able to attend the whole workshop!

Due to limited local space the course can accommodate a maximum of 20 participants. If we receive more applications, applicants will be prioritised by their interest in the topic, ELIXIR membership, and Nordic or Baltic affiliation.

 

Learning Objectives

  • To get acquainted with Learning principles and how they apply to training
  • To be able to select and use training techniques and tools that can help enhance learner engagement and participation
  • To learn how to effectively use feedback in training
  • To learn about session, course, and materials design as well as strategies for making learning engaging

 

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Name learning principles that a good teacher/instructor should have in mind
  • Apply learning principles to reflect on training techniques and evaluate which approaches are most effective in your own teaching context
  • Design a training session and a course
  • Enumerate types of tools and materials needed for each part of a training session or course 
  • Describe strategies to promote engagement amongst learners

 

Target Audience

This course is directed towards anyone who is interested in becoming a trainer/instructor of research computing and data related topics, or improving your training skills .
