The Museum Dialogues
1.2.2023 13:00
The National Museum of Finland
Who are we, where do we come from – where are we headed? We invite you to discuss about what is important in life and, at the same time, to contribute to what kind of National Museum we will have in 2027.
During spring 2023, the National Museum of Finland will arrange a range of dialogues, discussion events for small groups where different people meet up and increase each other’s and the museum’s understanding of culture, identities and history from different points of view. The dialogues present an opportunity to express personal views and to be heard.
The dialogues are a part of the reform of the operational model of the National Museum of Finland, and their aim is to strenghten the culture of constructive dialogue. The dialogues will give us at the museum a better understanding of the diverse needs of different audiences. We will use this understanding to build the National Museum of the future. The museum complex consisting of the annex, the historical main building and the green courtyard will open to the public in 2027.
The discussions will be recorded for the purpose of transcribing. All personal information will be deleted from the recording, and every participant will have the opportunity to read the transcript before we use it in our development work.
You don’t need to prepare for the dialogue in advance. The discussion is based on everyone’s own experiences. The discussions are confidential and the safer space principles are applied to them. The dialogues will be held in accordance to the Timeout tool developed by Sitra, which promotes an equal space for expressing personal views. The aim is not to reach consensus but to build multi-voiced understanding.
The dialogues will be arranged in the Atelier on the 2nd floor of the National Museum (Mannerheimintie 34, 00100 Helsinki). The discussion on
Wed 1st of March at 17.30–19.30
will be held in English.
