Fascinating Film Garden

19.8.2022 20:00

Helsinki City Museum

This summer, Helsinki City Museum’s Fascinating Film Garden will screen classic movies about mental health and madness.

Of course, one screening slot will be dedicated to an Inspector Palmu film, just like in our previous movie summers!

The films will be screened with an old-time analogue 35 mm film projector. The technical implementation will be carried out by Helsingin Studiopalvelut, with whom the City Museum has been collaborating since 2018. The Valkoinen Sali bar will sell refreshments at the event.

Ticket sales starts in June. Ticket price 10 €/movie, two movies at the same night 15€. Warmly welcome!

22.45 ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO’S NEST, USA 1975 (133 min) K-16
When small-time crook Randle P. McMurphy (Jack Nicholson) is sent to a mental hospital, he puts the routines created by senior nurse Mildred Ratched (Louise Fletcher) to the test. Things gradually escalate into a war between the patients and the institution, instigated by McMurphy with his infectious rebel spirit among the patients. However, the fate of the mental hospital patients is put on the line when McMurphy’s shenanigans are responded to by a sweetly cold and monstrous Ratched, who intends to keep hold of the strings until the end.

Miloš Forman’s masterful adaptation of Ken Kesey’s book One Flew over the Cuckoo’s Nest is one of the most esteemed films from the 1970s, as also evidenced by the row of Academy Awards it won. The film won the five most important Oscars: best picture, best actor and actress, best director and best screenplay. The film is also included on the American Film Institute’s list of 100 best films (1998).
