Oulu Mining School (OMS), a research unit operating at the Faculty of Technology, integrates scientific disciplines along the value chain from exploration to mining and mineral processing. 

Significance of research and education in mining and exploration has been emphasized during recent years due to the openings of new mines and increased production of minerals and metals. OMS gathers core disciplines of mining value chain at the geology, geophysics, mining engineering and mineral processing sectors. The unit provides the only mining engineering program in Finland, and has an unique mini-scale mineral processing factory in their premises.

10th Oulu Mining Summit conference, 17-19.9.2025

The Oulu Mining Summit is a traditional event organised by Oulu Mining School since 2016. In 2025, the Oulu Mining Summit event is organised tenth time. The aim of the Summit is to work as a communication platform for mining companies, universities, research institutes, consulting companies and other mining-related enterprises. The central topic of conference in 2025 is Geophysics across the Mining Value Chain. The conference will include a number of invited presentations given by specialists from mineral exploration, geophysical and mining companies and research organisations in Finland and abroad. We do not limit ourselves solely to traditional geophysical technologies, but consider them in a more broad context of subsurface imaging. The venue of the conference is Linnanmaa Campus of the University of Oulu, with possibility to invited speakers to have online presentations.

One special topic at Oulu Mining Summit 2025 will be national Minerals Strategy of Finland completed in December 2024 (https://tem.fi/en/minerals-strategy) and its implementation. A special workshop devoted to tasks and implementation of Minerals Strategy is organised on 19.09.2025. The second parallel workshop on Mining Waters on 19.09.2025 is organised by Digital Water Flagship of the University of Oulu (https://www.oulu.fi/en/research/digital-waters-flagship).

The venue of the conference is Linnanmaa Campus of the University of Oulu (Saalastinsali). Languages of the summit are English and Finnish.
