Eurydice (and Orpheus)
22.10.2026 19:00
In the fall of 2026, the gates of the Underworld will open in Savonlinna.
“Eurydice (and Orpheus)” is an immersive performance set in the historic Olavinlinna Castle, in which the audience is invited to a wedding, a journey to the Underworld—and perhaps back again.
An ancient myth of love, death, and loss comes to life in the castle’s corridors and courtyards. Audience members arrive as wedding guests of Eurydice and Orpheus, but the celebration takes an unexpected turn. Soon, a journey to the realm of the dead lies ahead—a place where the old rules no longer apply.
In this performance without a designated audience area, the audience does not watch the events from a distance but walks right through the middle of them. In Manala, each viewer chooses their own path and finds their own way to navigate through the story. No two viewing experiences are exactly alike.
Eurydice (and Orpheus) retells the myth from Eurydice’s perspective. For millennia, the story has been told through Orpheus’s voice. Now, the voice belongs to the one who remained in Manala.
A working group of artists from Savonlinna is transforming Olavinlinna into a stage where theater, contemporary circus, music, performance art, installations, and playful elements blend into a single multisensory experience. The audience will encounter living images, surprising spaces, movement, sound, and moments where myth and reality intertwine. The production features 00100ENSEMBLE and Recover Laboratory, pioneering groups in immersive theater and multidisciplinary art.
Only seven performances.
After that, the gates of Manala will close once again.
