Electrical Work Safety Training SFS 6002, Electrical Networks
Learn how to work safely in medium- and high-voltage environments, including substations, transformer substations, and electricity transmission networks. After completing the course, you will understand the key principles of electrical work safety, the requirements for safe work in network environments, and how to prevent electrical hazards during demanding electrical work.
The course content is based on the European EN 50110 standard for the operation of electrical installations and the SFS 6002:2025 Safety at Electrical Work standard.
Electrical Work Safety Training SFS 6002, Electrical Networks Course Description
The Safety at Electrical Work – Grid and Electricity Networks online course is designed for electrical professionals who work in medium- and high-voltage substations, transformer substations, and electricity transmission networks.
The training covers the general principles of electrical work safety as well as the specific safety requirements for demanding work in grid and network environments. You will learn how to plan and carry out work safely in environments where electrical hazards may be significant and where safe working methods, clear responsibilities, and correct procedures are essential.
The course is valid in CENELEC countries. In other countries, local occupational safety legislation and national supplementary electrical safety requirements must also be followed.
What will you learn in the online course?
The training begins with the dangers of electricity and how to protect yourself from them. You will learn the basic conditions for the safe execution of electrical work, including personal protective equipment, working conditions, competence requirements, responsibilities, and safe operating procedures.
The course also covers demanding work situations in medium- and high-voltage environments, including:
- operating activities and inspections
- demanding disconnection and connection work
- working close to live parts
- live working
- safe work planning in substations and network environments
- work activities at medium- and high-voltage sites
- responsibilities of skilled persons in electrical safety
Why this training is necessary
Electrical work in substations and electricity networks involves hazards that require a high level of competence, planning, and safety awareness. Work may involve demanding disconnection and connection tasks, proximity to live parts, and environments where incorrect procedures can lead to serious injury, equipment damage, or operational disruption.
The EN 50110 and SFS 6002:2025 standards define the principles and requirements for safe operation of electrical installations and electrical work safety. This course helps employers ensure that electrical professionals working in substations and on electricity networks have the safety knowledge required for their role.
The course also supports the employer’s obligation under Section 14 of the Finnish Occupational Safety and Health Act 738/2002 to provide instruction and guidance to persons working in substations and on networks.
