Electrical Work Safety Training SFS 6002, Instructed Person Course Description
The Safety at Electrical Work – Instructed Person online course is designed for people who are not electrically skilled persons, but whose work may require them to carry out operating activities on electrical equipment or work near live parts.
In electrical safety, an ordinary person becomes an instructed person once they have received sufficient task-specific and workplace-specific instruction from electrically skilled persons. The purpose of this instruction is to ensure that the person can recognize electrical hazards and avoid danger while carrying out their work.
The training supports the employer’s instruction program by covering the general SFS 6002:2025 electrical safety training required for instructed persons. Workplace-specific instruction, verification of competence, and documentation must be completed separately by the employer.
What will you learn in the online course?
The training begins with the dangers of electricity and how to protect yourself from them. You will learn the general principles of electrical work safety, competence requirements, responsibilities, and safe operating procedures.
The course also covers practical situations where instructed persons may work near electrical equipment or live parts, including:
- operating activities and inspections
- working in the vicinity of live parts
- the responsibilities and limitations of instructed persons
- recognizing electrical hazards in the workplace
- understanding when work must be left to electrically skilled persons
Why this training is necessary
Electrical hazards can be present in many workplaces, even when employees are not carrying out electrical installation work themselves. People who work near electrical equipment must understand the risks and know how to avoid dangerous situations.
The SFS 6002:2025 standard and Finnish electrical safety legislation require appropriate electrical safety training for persons whose work involves electrical hazards or working near live parts. This course helps employers ensure that instructed persons have the general electrical safety knowledge required for their role.
